Printing deviation, hot stamping failure and physical damage happen to both rigid paper boxes and custom paper bags. These defects create extra cost, delayed lead-time and complaints from end buyers. Understanding typical failure points will help importers reduce risk.
Printing Color Deviation
Color shift appears after lamination for both boxes and bags. Screen PDF can not represent real final effect.
✅ Solution: Produce physical presample with real paper and real film. Adjust file brightness to compensate darkening effect caused by lamination. Approve against physical sample instead of screen.
Hot Stamping Problems
Cracked foil: mostly appears on rigid box fold creases; for paper bags, repeated folding also causes foil crack. Peeling foil: happens on soft-touch film surface for both boxes and bags due to mismatched foil material.
✅ Solution: Keep graphics away from fold lines where possible. Select anti-crack & film-matched hot foil. Do folding test on presamples.
Rigid Box-specific issues
· Wrapped surface bubble: wrapping paper not smoothly pasted on grey board.
· Unsquare box: poor die-cutting and assembling.
Paper Bag-specific issues
· Handle tearing: insufficient paper grammage or weak glue joint between rope handle and paper.
· Bag bottom splitting: poor bottom gluing craft for heavy-load bags.
✅ Solution for bags: Increase paper grammage for heavy goods. Reinforce handle joint area. Carry out load-bearing test on sample bags.
Universal Pre-production Checklist for Boxes & Bags
1. Sample uses identical paper, film, foil as bulk order
2. Color checked against signed physical sample
3. Fold test: boxes crease test, bags repeated bending test
4. Strength test: bag handle pull test, box drop test
5. Check fine text and small logo for blurring
